All of these things can point to an imbalance in the ‘maiden’ archetype–the first of the three major feminine archetypes. The maiden is the first archetype of the woman after leaving the little girl stage of development. She represents a key developmental stage as well as a place where the adult woman can and must enter from time to time in order to find relaxation, joy, and pleasure. This key archetype can be suppressed and damaged through actions of society or parents and if the archetype is inaccessible or receives too little time or attention, depression, illness, or behavior that is damaging to self or others can result.
